As I sit outside on the deck and here all the songs of the birds and the bee's buzzing, I can't help but to reminisce on my lovely week long vacation my family and I have had. The routines have definitely been some good ones to get into the habit of. I can't help to think that the mountain agenda contained some pretty interesting events, but the one that just doesn't leave my memory is the one known as the crashing cardinal.
We arrived at the mountains a week ago today. We were greeted by the "let's eat a seed and crash into the window, cardinal." I seriously could not believe it when I seen it. I started singing and mocking his songs, as he repeatedly sang right back everytime. I would continue to sit in the sunroom and read and sing, and he would continue to sing and crash. His crash course came from the enemy we all knew that he was trying to fight off, the enemy of his own reflection. So it's been a week of one amazing thing after another.
There is nothing like a vacation in the mountains, except another one. We have woke up, drank our coffee, watched the neatest birds ever, eat from the feeders, read books, talked, talked and talked, took multiple jeep rides, went to the creek, made s'mores, looked in the telescope, chased and caught fireflies, and started all over again the next day. The best part was having one side of the family all here under one roof for the entire time. Memories were made that I will cherish for a lifetime.
As I close and go enjoy my last day here with Uncle Wayne and Aunt Debbie, I have to say we have all grown from this trip, and learned a lot! I learned what goes up must come down, thanks Wayne! I learned I must trust someone who proclaims that they are a professional jeep driver, I learned not all drinks are kid drinks, right? I learned you really really need four wheel drive up here before you go testing out where you are going to drive, lol, and the best one I learned was, don't ever dare a kid to do something for money if you truly have any doubt in your mind that he will really do it. It's been a blast, I am dreading packing up my van today, and going back to the sunshine state as some call it, when I bet it will be pouring down rain on our way in.
I can't wait to get home and scrapbook all these pictures and savor the memories. I will leave you with a thought from Braden, as I always try to do...He went around the mountain house and collected all the bungee cords that he could possibly put his hands on, and took them outside and attached them from one side of the deck to the other and when they were all connected he decided to declare "I have now made laser beams and you can't cross them or you will get burned" as Aunt Debbie would reach out and touch them and say "ouch" and of course he felt as though his mission was accomplished!
Back to the real world,
S~
I am so glad that you enjoyed your mountain getaway! We miss you guys. I am here to report that our wackadoo cardinal is still at it. The window crashing continues! I think I'll call him Randy. Another bird has started building a nest on our front porch and worked hard at it all day. I can't tell what kind it is. So, the birds are still doing their thing! Keep up the good work with the low carbs. It's not easy, I know . But it'll make a difference over time.
